I was a service advisor @ honda for 5-6 years I know what the knock sensor is responsible for, but the issue is that my 1997 nissan quest xe 3.0 will not pass a virginia state emissions inspection, the malfunction indicator light is not on, but I hooked it up just to check by chance, and low and behold there was a p0325 code, do you possibly have any recommendations for repair that will give a better chance of getting through emissions testing, well thanks for your time and any info on this code/problem would be much appreciated.

P0325 Knock sensor 1circuit malfunction (Bank 1 or single sensor)

If the CK ENG LT is not on and the monitor are ready depending on your state emission regulation , you should be able to do the emission test.. I like Nissan , and they all have a P0325 in the pending and no CK ENG LT and P0325 will not turn the CK ENG LT on unless it is a hard code. Here is a Knock sensor for the emission test, its shell is cracked compared to the new on the right. CK ENG LT was cleared, after the first drive cycle P0325 appeared, what happened is the knock sensor is hard set code, this vehicle failed its emission test, after the replacement of the knock sensor , the monitor where set to the ready  and in the pending code was a P0325 because its only a pending code the vehicle was able to pass it test. Knock sensor code can also be caused by secondary condition such as vehicle being low on coolant , low on motor oil , old fuel , make sure cooling system is full , motor oil full, and you should be good to go.
